We were just going to throw some seeds into our flower beds and see what would come of it...
About Us
We are Rhonda + Katrina, a mother-daughter duo who decided on a whim in 2020 to start a cut flower farm together. Both of our husbands are farmers in Central Washington and so “Farm Wife Flowers” was created to start our own farming adventure.
Rhonda still works her full-time job as a Purchasing Manager in Moses Lake and Katrina is raising two babies and helps on the family farm. During nap times, evenings after work, and weekends, we find any opportunities we can to be in our flower garden.
We had little experience with cut flowers initially and wouldn’t say we had the best “green thumb”, but with research and books, trial and error, and learning as we go, we were able to successfully grow some beautiful flowers that made this learning curve totally worth it.
Our Story
After our initial idea of throwing seeds into our flower beds, we soon had totally immersed ourselves into cut flower farm research and before we knew it, we had seeds ordered, a quarter-acre of land secured, irrigation installed, trays, grow lights, landscape fabric, and the whole operation turned from a simple growing experiment into a giant one!
At the beginning, we killed many flowers. It wasn’t easy figuring out the right combination of moisture and temperature levels, which flowers thrive in our area and which do not, and light preferences of varieties, but we continued to research, took the Floret Workshop, and we stuck with it even when we felt discouraged.
Soon enough, we got into a groove and slowly, after what felt like months, we finally had a garden full of flowers! But then we realized that in order to put our flowers out into the world, we needed to learn how to arrange them into bouquets. So more research ensued (can you tell you like to research a lot?!) and we started putting our flowers into bouquets for others to enjoy. We learned so much our first year and are still amazed that this tiny spark of an idea turned into this garden full of flowers and a business!
